Generation 1

Captain John BISHOP – Second child and son of Sir Knight William BISHOP and Lady Elizabeth RAMSEY; b. abt. 1590-1595 in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland; d. 23 September 1658 in Charles City, Charles, Virginia; m. 29 November 1635 in Staffordshire, England to Elizabeth BOOKER – b. 1604 in Charlwood, Surrey, England; d. 1656 in Prince George, Prince George, Virginia.  John and Elizabeth had 8 children.

NOTE: Captain John Bishop arrived to Virginia in 1635.

Generation 2

John BISHOP II – Eldest child of John and Elizabeth (BOOKER) BISHOP; b. 1635 in Prince George, Prince George, Virginia; d. 12 June 1716 in Prince George, Prince George, Virginia; m. 14 September 1664 in Charles City, Charles, Virginia to Sarah LAWRENCE – b. 14 September 1644 in Sussex, Sussex, Virginia; d. 1722 in Prince George, Prince George, Virginia.  John and Sarah had 8 children.

Generation 3

John BISHOP III – Fifth child and 3rd son of John and Sarah (LAWRENCE )BISHOP; b. 1670 in Prince George, Virginia; d. 1714 in Prince George, Virginia; m. 1700 in Prince George, Virginia to Sarah HARMON – b. 1670 in Prince George, Virginia; d. 1722 in Prince George, Virginia.  John and Sarah had 5 children.

Generation 4

Henry BISHOP – Eldest child of John and Sarah (HARMON) BISHOP; b. 1705 in Prince George, Virginia; d. 1782 in Prince George, Virginia; m. 1720 in Virginia to Mary GLOVER – b. 1708 in Virginia; d. 1782 in Prince George, Virginia.  Henry and Mary had 5 children.

Generation 5

William Glover BISHOP, Sr. – Fifth child and son of Henry and Mary (GLOVER) BISHOP; b. 1738 in Lincolnton, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; d. 10 August 1823 at Standing Stone Creek, Spartanburg, South Carolina; m. 1769 in North Carolina to Sarah Burnett BALLENGER – b. 1752 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg, South Carolina; d. 21 September 1826 at Standing Stone Creek, Spartanburg, South Carolina.  William and Sarah had 8 children.

Generation 6

Robert Allen BISHOP – Second child and son of William Glover and Sarah Burnett (BALLENGER) BISHOP; b. 25 April 1773 in Lincolnton, Lincoln, North Carolina; d. 18 August 1869 at Hamilton, Marion, Alabama; m. 1794 at Spartanburg, Spartanburg, South Carolina to Margaret Peggy LEWIS – b. 10 October 1777; d. 2 October 1852 at Hamilton, Marion, Alabama.  Robert and Margaret had 17 children (2 sets of twins and a set of triplets???).

Generation 7

Pinckney BISHOP – 12th child and 7th son of Robert Allen and Margaret Peggy (LEWIS) BISHOP; b. 1816 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg, South Carolina; d. 6 May 1880 in Marion County, Alabama; m. abt. 1835 at Spartanburg, Spartanburg, South Carolina to Charlotte POPE – b. 1823 in Pennsylvania; d. 1918 in Marion County, Alabama.  Pinckney and Charlotte had 14 children (one set of twins).

Generation 8

William Pinkney BISHOP – 14th child and 6th son of Pinckney and Charlotte (POPE) BISHOP – b. 17 May 1866 in Marion County, Alabama; d. 6 March 1929 at Rising Star, Eastland, Texas; m. 18 May 1886 at Ewing, Marion, Alabama to Mary Elizabeth ANTHONY – b. 21 September 1869 at Ewing, Marion, Alabama; d. 28 September 1948 at Brownwood, Brown, Texas.  William and Mary Elizabeth had 11 children.

Generation 9

Clyde Finley BISHOP – 11th child and 6th son of William Pinkney and Mary Elizabeth (ANTHONY) BISHOP; b. 29 October 1915 at Golden, Wood, Texas; d. 24 November 1999 at Brownwood, Brown, Texas; m. 9 December 1939 at Rising Star, Eastland, Texas to Willie Augusta MAYES – b. 3 October 1918 at Odell, Wilbarger, Texas; d. 25 May 2004 at Dallas, Dallas, Texas.  Clyde and Willie had 4 children.

  1. Do you have any records or names of the other children of William an Sarah Bishop? I am trying to find information on my descendant Jeremiah Bishop born about 1770 or so.

  2. Do you know if William Glover Bishop was buried in the Bishop Cemetery at Boiling Springs? I don't know where that is in relation to the old Standing Stone Creek community where he died.
